Once you’ve selected several moving companies and collected several quotes comes the difficult task of selecting one. Some people find this to be the hardest decision to make. In this post we will try to make your lives a bit easier and provide you some tips about deciding which company to use.
Comparing Prices
Let’s start with the most obvious parameter – price. Actually, comparing prices is not as easy as it sounds. The bottom line prices are based on weight, space or hourly estimates. One company might estimate a lower number of hours or a lesser weight, making the estimate price tumble, but the bottom line price on the day of the move skyrocket. This is why you should compare the basic charge units and not the bottom line price. If the basic charge unit is not mentioned on the estimate, be sure to ask your mover for the rate per hour, pound or cubic foot it will be using and get it in writing.
Comparing Location
Again, this might sound easy, but is sometimes more complex than it sounds. Various companies offer self-storage addresses and other strange addresses as their ‘local headquarters’. Make sure the company you are considering is really local and not a company situated hundreds of miles away.
Comparing Services
Read and re-read your estimate to make sure you understand all the fine details. Check what’s include in the price and specifically inquire about packing and special charges for long carry, flights of stairs, elevator use and so on. Sometimes, a company that charges slightly higher will provide you with a much better value for your money.
