Selecting a reputable moving company in order to experience a successful NJ move is not always an easy task. When you are flooded with offers, each using a different pricing system, this task may appear almost impossible.
One of the most basic recommendations that we give our customers is to make sure they understand their NJ moving estimate before they make their selection. This means that they need to familiarize themselves with concepts such as hourly rates, travel time and packing fees.
Understanding the Hourly Rate
Local NJ movers will normally provide you with an hourly rate. It is important to understand what is included with the rate your local mover provided you. Ask your mover the following questions:
- How many movers will you receive for your quoted hourly rate?
- Will travel time be charged separately and if so will it be charged according to the same hourly rate?
- What are the extra fees that are not included in this hourly rate?
You must make sure that you fully understand the answer to each and every one of the above questions. Also, it is recommended that you receive all the details, including the hourly rate, travel time fees and possible packing charges in writing so that you can review them and compare them to offers from other companies.
Understanding Packing Fees
Most movers will provide free blanket padding for local moving, but will charge extra for packing glass and specialty items.
- Ask your potential movers what the packing fees will be.
- Mention items that may need extra care, such as marble tops and expensive electronic equipment.
- Decide in advance whether or not you are interested in full packing services.
- If you decide to pack yourself, ask for guidance from your mover about recommended packing practices.
