Moving Tips Provided by Alpha Moving & Storage
Many people hire the services of a moving company without fully understanding their rights and responsibilities, or even how their moving estimate will actually work on the moving date. This may result in unwanted surprises once the moving date arrives both for you and for your relocation specialist.
Let’s take a look at some of the basic responsibilities and rights that you have as a customer.
Understanding your Moving Rights
First and foremost, your relocation specialist should provide you with a written estimate that details all charges, surcharges and potential packing fees.
It is your right to get an estimate that will be completely clear and understandable and address possible additional fees. Also get clear information in the difference in cost if you decide to move more items, pack additional items, or change any other moving particulars.
The address and license information of the mover should appear on the estimate and you should make sure that you are provided them. Do not go with a mover unless you know its physical location and check that its license numbers are in order.
Understanding your Responsibilities
Your most important responsibility is to provide accurate information to your mover and update it of any changes before the relocation date.
For example, if you decide to purchase additional items of furniture after you have received your written estimate, then you should inform your relocation specialist of the additions to check if they will influence the total cost.
If you have any last minute changes, access difficulties, inventory changes, requirements for certificates of insurance and so forth, then you should make sure your moving company is made aware of them.
If you decide to do your own packing, make sure that you use proper materials and consult your relocation company about how to pack and handle delicate items, antiques and so forth.
It is always recommended to allow the mover to do the packing for you, in order to be properly insured and avoid potential damages.
