Local moving may sometimes sound deceptively simple, but in actuality involves some complex processes that will require a lot of careful planning and thought.
Educating yourself about how local moving works will help you to make correct decisions about packing, inventorying, selecting reputable movers and avoiding disreputable ones.
Let’s take a look at some of the basic local moving processes in order to allow you to make more informed decisions.
How Local Moving is charged
Almost all relocation service providers charge according to a pre-determined hourly rate. The rate will be provided by you relocation service provider.
Your relocation company should specify how many movers it will send you for the specific rate quoted.
If the number of movers was not provided you, be sure to inquire how many will be sent to service your move.
An hourly rate of $110 for four movers will end up working better for you than an hourly rate of $80 for two movers.
Make sure that the hourly rate and the number of movers assigned for your move are both provided to you in writing by the relocation service provider.
Possible Extra Fees for Local Moving
Possible extra fees have to do with packing, access difficulties and travel time. Most movers will provide you with the option of packing some or all of your items by yourself. If you will need any assistance in packing your boxes or handling glass items, electronic equipment and so forth then the movers will charge you for it.
Travel time is charged for the time it will take the movers to return back to their headquarters once the delivery is done. It is normally the same as the hourly rate.
If the truck cannot park by your house or if you have any other access difficulties additional fees may apply, so inquire with your relocation company about those.
