This is the second part of the Alpha Moving and Storage guide to save money on moving costs. In this part we will continue with some simple and practical advice that will help you reduce expenses.
Mailing or Shipping Books
Before packing your library, try and compare the cost of mailing some of your volumes to your long distance destination versus paying for moving them. You may discover that the cost of mailing some heavy volumes will be less expensive.
Remember that the charges for moving long distance are based on weight of space. With weight based moves, the price for moving art books or other expensive volumes may be very expensive.
Checking if Everything Fits
If you are moving into a smaller apartment or into a house with a different layout, you may find yourself in a situation in which you do not have room for all the furniture.
In order to avoid that, try to get a floor plan of your new house or apartment. Using that floor plan, check if all the items of furniture in your possession will fit into the new space. You don’t want to find yourself in a situation in which you’ll pay for moving your large sofa or piano and end up needing to get rid of them, simply because there’s no room.
Another useful thing to do, if possible, is checking the dimensions of entrances in the new place. If doors and entrances are too narrow for some of your items of furniture, you may want to consider leaving them behind, or contacting your moving and relocation company to check for other solutions. Alpha Moving and Storage relocation consultants will be happy to assist you with making such decisions.
