Welcome back to the ‘Essential facts you must simply know about…’ series of posts from Alpha Moving and Storage. This time, we will take a look at local moving and examine some various basic facts you should know before your coming move.
How Local Moving is performed by Most Service Providers
Since local moving is mostly finished in a single day, the vast majority of movers apply an hourly fee. When you call to receive an estimate, your relocation consultant will offer you a rate per hour that will cover the basic costs of the move, without packing.
This hourly rate depends on the amount of movers required for your local move. Based on the size of your inventory and your access conditions, your relocation consultant may assign any number of movers, normally from two to six, for your move.
In some cases, a single truck will not be enough to contain all your goods, and two trucks will be assigned to finish the move in a single trip.
Hourly Calculations, Travel Time and Packing Fees
Based on your hourly rate, you will be charged for the time it takes to load, drive to the destination and offload the goods. You will also be charged for travel time, which is normally the same amount of time it took to drive from pick up to destination with a minimum of one hour. This is charged for the time it will take the movers to go back to the warehouse.
As in all other types of moves, packing and packing materials, if needed, will be separately charged.
