Many customers prefer to do some or all of the packing themselves. Some do it because of the costs involved, others simply because they prefer to prepare and arrange their own boxes. If you’ve decided to do self packing, the following tips will help you to get better results and avoid possible damages.
Getting Proper Packing Materials
The first question that comes up is where to get packing materials. It is highly recommended to use only new boxes, designed specifically for moving and transportation. Getting used boxes at the supermarket may save you some money, but it might end up causing you damages.
The easiest way to get packing materials is to search online for a specialized company that delivers materials to your door, or simply to contact your mover and ask for a box delivery. Alpha Moving and Storage provides the service of selling packing materials on or before the day of the move. For further information, please contact your relocation consultant.
Packing Correctly
Follow the instructions of your movers or box providers. Use boxes for their specific uses. Don’t stack heavy items such as books in large boxes, or small items in large ones without filling them up.
If you prefer to pack your own dishes, use dish packs and remember to wrap each item with white paper of newspapers. Glass surfaces must be covered with bubble wrap and electronic equipment should be protected and boxed up.
Your mover should be able to provide you with blankets on the moving day to wrap and protect all non-breakables such as sofas and tables with no glass or marble surfaces.
