That being said, in actuality few people really know how to find out whether or not they are dealing with an actual reputable mover or with a dishonest service provider.

Research before Contacting the Mover
Many people make the mistake of researching the reputation of the mover only after they have contacted it and received the estimate. Remember, moving companies employ expert sales people who will do everything they can to convince you that they are reputable, honest and absolutely the best service providers of all time. Do you really expect a sales person to tell you anything else? It is your responsibility to check the mover’s license numbers, actual physical address and Better Business Bureau score. Contact only companies that have headquarters in your immediate area and an impeccable reputation.
Checking References and Visiting the Mover
Ask the mover to provide you with actual references. This means references that contain the email address or phone number of people you can actually contact to make sure they are real. While it is true that some people may hesitate to leave their phone number on a reference letter, as they will not want to be bothered, most of them will have no problem whatsoever to leave their email address and allow other people to contact them and ask for their unbiased opinion.
Do not consider using movers that cannot provide you with valid license numbers, references and addresses you can check, even if they offer you highly attractive rates.
