A great moving and relocation estimate is not only about the bottom line price presented to you. A good estimate is also about the terms and conditions, the possible packing fees, the charge per unit and the credibility of the approximation provided you.
In this Alpha Moving and Storage blog post, we will take a look at some of the factors you need to consider when receiving and comparing estimates.
Looking at the Fine Print
If you’ve received a low bottom line price, it’s important to check the following:
- Is this a binding estimate or merely a rough approximation of your weight / volume / amount of hours it will take to complete the move?
- What’s not included in the price? Check that possible fees for packing, documentation, handling, possible access issues and so forth are not above industry average.
- What happens if you have over the weight / volume / amount of hours appearing on the estimate? Make sure that the basic charge unit is not significantly higher than the industry average.
Low Prices and Credibility Issues
If the moving price you’ve received is significantly lower than the rates other movers have provided you with, check and double check the credibility of the estimate. If you are dealing with a disreputable relocation service provider, most chances are that the price will significantly increase during the day of the move.
Try to avoid using obscure companies without a local base in your area and without doing a thorough background check. Such a background check should include looking into the company’s license numbers, Better Business Bureau record. You should also request references from customers that have moved in the past few months.
