Pricing Options
Long distance moving is charged either by weight or by volume.
Weight based charges are determined according to an accurate weighing process in a certified weight station. The moving truck is weighed before and after it is loaded to determine the shipment weight. Customers should always receive a copy of the weight certificate.
Volume based charges are determined according to the actual space a shipment will take on a moving truck. Most professional moving trucks will be marked with lines that show both movers and customers the volume.
Charge Units
Understanding the charge unit used to calculate the price of the move will give you more control and better understanding.
The mover should provide you, in advance, with a basic charge unit, or in other words a fixed price per pound for weight based moves and a fixed price per cubic foot for volume based moves.
Packing Charges
Long distance moving requires careful packing in order to make sure that items are not damaged during transit. Packing charges depend on the amount of self packing that customers choose to do, the size of the inventory and the existence of specialty items that need special handling and care.
