The packing process is not essentially different, but it should be done more carefully, considering the fact that your items will need to be loaded and offloaded from a truck several times. However, if you decide to do some or all of the packing by yourself, here are a few important points to consider:
- Storage and long distance deliveries require careful packing. Use only new and sturdy packing materials.
- Carefully label each and every one of your boxes. This will help the moves with moving your items in and out of storage.
- Don’t place any important documents, medicine or other items inside the boxes going to storage. Especially for long distance moves, you don’t want to find yourself in a situation in which an important document is stored in another state.
- Carefully mark all fragile items so the movers will know to handle them with care.
- Consider allowing the movers to pack all the electronic equipment, televisions, mattresses and so forth. Remember that your items are going into storage. There’s a difference between packing files and books and packing expensive televisions or chinaware. Such items are best left for professional movers to handle, especially when long distance moving and storage are involved.
