Tips to Help you Travel with your Pet
- If you are moving your pet with an airline, consider the use of sedatives. Sedatives may also be useful if you have a long trip by car.
- Be sure to carry a copy of your pet’s health record, obtained from your veterinarian in advance.
- Remember to check if an entry permit is required by the destination state. In most cases, the requirements and regulations are similar. That being said, the state of Hawaii required that pets be quarantined for a period of up to one hundred and twenty days. International moves with pets are more complex and you should check for the rules and regulations of the specific country you will be relocating to.
- You need to prepare and pack for your pet in advance. Make sure you have your pet’s food bowl, medication, food, leash and so forth. Remember to take some water for your pet and a few treats. Bring an extra bag of your pet’s regular food, just in case you’ll have a hard time finding it at the destination.
- An identification tag is always useful. Even if your pet is highly trained, the stress of the move may cause it to get scared and confused. Make sure the tag includes all the relevant information, such as your pet’s name, your name, new address and phone number.
