Preparing for Packing
Even though full packing is highly recommended for long distance moving, there are still some packing processes that you can do yourself in order to try and lower the costs. Our recommendation is to leave all fragile items, glass items, electronic equipment and so forth to the moving company. But in order to lower costs, you can pre-order boxes such as book boxes, and pack some of the non-breakables such as books and files by yourself.
Getting an Early Start
Especially if you are moving during the busy summer months, reserving your long distance move in advance can actually lower the costs. During the summer, as moving companies are gradually booked up, prices gradually rise. The sooner you receive your estimates and reserve your move, the better. For summer long distance moving, our recommendation is to reserve at least six to ten weeks in advance to ensure the best possible rates, as well as availability.
