Alpha Moving & Storage Breaks Down Moving Estimates
When you go online to search for a moving company, any moving related search that you will perform will provide you with dozens of results. In addition, some of the websites that you will use to request estimates from are index websites, which means that the information you will submit will be transferred to about six different moving companies.
What does it all mean? It means that you will be flooded with at least ten to fifteen different estimates, each one using different terms and each one with a different bottom line total.
Let’s take a look at a few simple facts that will help you to make more educated comparisons and select the best moving estimate.
Comparing Long Distance Moving Estimates
Long distance moving estimates should be very clear and easy to understand. You will need to familiarize yourself with the basic charge unit that each and every moving company uses in order to make educated comparisons.
Most movers will either use a rate per pound or a rate per cubic foot. Rates per pound and rates per cubic foot can be compared by multiplying or dividing them by seven. This means that a rate of fifty cents per pound is the equivalent of a $3.5 per cubic foot rate. Make sure that each company provides you with its basic charge unit, as each may use different weights or volumes in their estimate. Only comparing the basic charge unit will allow you to make a real comparison.
Comparing Local Moving Estimates
Local moving estimates use a rate per hour. Again, this is what you should compare, pretty much in the same way rates per cubic foot or per pound are compared for long distance estimates. That being said, make sure you inquire about how many movers the hourly rate will allow you. Some movers will offer very low rates per hour, but will send only two movers, which will take much longer to complete the move.
