In this final Alpha Moving and Storage ‘Countdown Guide to Moving’ article, we will examine the preparations you need to perform on the moving day itself and when moving into your new home.
At the Pick up Point
- It is highly recommended that you are present at the pick up point to supervise the entire process of loading your goods. No one knows your personal needs better than you do, being there to tell the movers what to take first and how to handle your goods is not only important, it is essential. If you cannot be present, make sure the person in change of overseeing the process of the packing and loading is a person whose judgment you trust. Also, be available by phone in case the driver needs to contact you with any questions.
- Once all the items are loaded onto the truck, go room by room to make sure you or the movers haven’t forgotten anything. You don’t want to call the movers half an hour after they’ve left and tell them about a piece of expensive equipment forgotten in the garage or an important box forgotten in the attic.
- Before leaving the house, make sure all the switches are turned off. Also, be sure to lock all the doors and windows.
At the Destination
- Try to get there early to take care of as many preparations possible before the movers arrive.
- Go room by room and think about the placement of all major items. This will help you instruct the movers where to place them as soon as they are offloaded and save you a lot of unnecessary work at a later stage.
