We recently did a little survey and asked our foremen and crew members what they think are the most essential moving tips.
Here are some of the tips and advice that they came up with.
- Always tell your movers about changes in advance. If you’ve already received an estimate and you want to take off or add items to your inventory, be sure to call your moving company and let it know about it in advance. Inventory changes can and will influence your move, especially if you are moving long distance.
- Be sure to let your movers know about difficult access, stairs, parking limitations or anything else that may influence the loading or off-loading of the truck. If you neglect to mention such issues, especially for long distance deliveries, this may seriously influence the amount of time it will take the movers to off-load your truck.
- If you plan to do your own packing, make sure that you have enough quality materials and try to avoid second hand boxes. You don’t want boxes to be torn and valuable content to be damaged. Investing in quality materials will help you to avoid such a situation.
- Make sure you understand your moving estimate. This means that you need to realize what the mover needs to do and what falls under your responsibility. When it comes to packing, be clear about your intentions and whether or not you would like to pack your own boxes and breakable items.
- If you are moving long distance, make sure that the delivery terms are understood. In some cases, you will need to wait a few days before receiving your delivery, so be sure to make proper arrangements.
- If you are moving long distance, be sure to let your mover know what is the first day in which you will be available to receive delivery at the destination location.
