In this final part of our ‘Alpha Moving Guide for Selecting a Mover’ we will examine the final aspects of comparing various moving estimates and how to compare estimates for local moves.
The Basic Charge Unit for Local Moves
Unlike long distance moves, local moves are charged by the hour. The moving company should provide you with a set price per hour of labor. The fee will depend on the number of movers that are required for your move. Small to medium moves will require three or four movers, and larger moves could require up to five or six movers. Some larger local moves will require two regular sized moving trucks.
Just like with long distance moving, it is important to check not only the bottom line price, but the rate per hour you were provided with, the number of movers the relocation company intends to send and the number of hours it estimated it would take to complete your move.
Comparing the Basic Rates and Added Fees and Making a Decision
Once you look at the basic rates the companies are offering, you can compare apples to apples and make an educated decision. But before making your decision, you should also check for additional fee.
The most common added fee is for packing and packing materials. If you want your moving company to pack some or all of your belongings, be sure to check the fees for packing and packing materials in advance. For full packing, you should be able to receive one set fee for the packing of all your furniture, breakable items, kitchenware and so forth.
Additional added fees may include surcharges for long carry, elevator use and certificates of insurance. If you are unsure about charges for additional fees, be sure to contact your sales representative and ask, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
