In this second part of the new Alpha Moving and Storage Guide for packing your kitchen, we will examine how to pack your pots and pans, large appliances, silver and flatware.
Remember to label all the boxes containing kitchen items. Boxes containing breakables should be marked with “Fragile” and “This Side Up” labels.
Packing your Pots and Pans
Before actually starting to pack your pots and pans, sort them into groups of similar sizes. Using packing paper, separate them and place them together in nested groups. Once done, place each group upside down on packing paper. Finally, wrap several more sheets around the group and secure it all with tape.
Packing your Plates
First of all, place crumpled packing paper or bubble wrap at the bottom of your box. Each plate should be individually wrapped with a sheet of paper. Then, each group of two-three plates should be wrapped and packed in a bundle. Use white paper or newsprint in order to do that.
Packing Kitchen Appliances
Before you disconnect them, remove all the contents of your appliances, as well as all the movable parts. Doors and drawers should be secured with packing tape or plastic wrap. Unplug your refrigerator twenty four hours before the move. Remember to turn off the gas before disconnecting your gas stove.
Smaller appliances should be wrapped with bubble wrap. Pack each small appliance separately and be sure to use appropriate sized boxes. Fill up all empty spaces and gaps with peanuts, or crumpled packing paper to make sure your appliance is safe and secure inside the box.
Packing your Silverware
Your silver pieces should be wrapped in plastic wrap or newsprint to avoid tarnishing. Place flatware and flatware sets in plastic bags or small boxes. Silverware chests should be wrapped with towels to avoid damage during transit.
