Now that you’ve limited your search to six local and reputable moving companies the time has come to learn a little more about moving estimates and how various service providers present them. In this part of the Alpha Moving Guide to the Basics of moving we will take a look at local moving estimates and how most service providers calculate them.
The Basics of Local Moving
Even though there are variations, most relocation service providers charge for local moving by the hour.
Based on the size of your move, the relocation company will decide the number of movers necessary to complete it. Smaller moves will require as little as three movers, larger moves may require five or six.
Determining Rates and Charges
After receiving information about the size of the move and determining the number of movers necessary, the moving company will be able to provide you an estimate for the amount of time completing the move would take. Almost all relocation service providers provide a fixed rate per hour.
Comparing local moving estimates is fairly easy. You should compare the rate per hour, the number of movers and potential additional fees.
When comparing the hourly rates, bear in mind that you still need to check the number of movers you will be receiving. If you have a three bedroom house, completing the move with only two or three movers will be difficult and would take a lot of time. On the other hand, a crew of five movers will take much less time to complete such a move. Even though the rate for five movers is more expensive than the rate for three movers, the move itself will take much less time to complete and will therefore end up being much less expensive. Before making your decision, don’t forget to check for additional potential fees such as packing materials.
