1. Keep the Chaos at a Minimum

Do the best you can to have friends and family help during the packing process so your child remains living in as soothing an environment as they are usually accustomed to. If this isn’t possible, we recommend packing when your child is napping, in bed for the night, or at school.

2. Let Them Help Pack Their Items the Week Before You Move

When packing up, leave plenty of your child’s belongings out so they have enough to wear and play with the last week before the final move. Have them help with anything they can – putting their stuffed animals in a bag, boxing up their books, emptying their shoes into a box – things like that. This allows them to feel some sort of control, and they will know where all their things are and what they’re all going with them to their new home.

3. Make it Fun

Make it fun by playing music, dancing, make a game out of throwing soft items into a box, let them play in the boxes. Have them draw on and decorate the boxes their things are going in. Remind them these are THEIR boxes for their new room and this is a fun adventure!

4. Introduce Them to Your New Home Throughout the Process

Kids love surprises, but have them visit their new home as often as possible throughout the process so they get comfortable there. Show them which spaces are the kitchen, living room, their room, and yours. Help them imagine where they would like to put their bed, their toys, the TV, the kitchen table. Let them make some decisions about their belongings specifically. Showing them where their things are in the new home during the process will help them with any confusion about where things have gone as you move them from your current home to their new home.

5. Get Them Something New to Make it Exciting

Think about an item for their room that might make this move a little more exciting for them. A new bean bag or fun pillow for their bed? Maybe a new comforter they can help you pick out? A fun nightlight? Something to keep them excited for their first night in their new home. Good luck and let us know how it went!

Alpha Moving helped us move from an apartment with many stairs in Hoboken to a suburban home in NJ. There team was very responsive, professional, punctual, … More and communicative. I was very happy with their service, and they helped make the experience less stressful. The Alpha team was great at communicating ahead of and during our move and they set our expectations on pricing. We were very happy with our decision to hire Alpha.

My experience using Alpha Moving and Storage was excellent. The crew was courteous and professional. They took their time to ensure that everything was … More covered and packaged before the move so there was no damage. They made sure everything was positioned correctly in our house, and even helped to move a few pieces of furniture that were not part of the original move. I would highly recommend

I recently hired Alpha Moving to help a family member move from a 3rd-floor walk-up in Brooklyn to New Jersey, and I couldn't be more impressed with … More their service. The team was punctual, professional, and showed exceptional care for both the Brooklyn apartment and the New Jersey home. They took extra precautions to protect the walls and floors, which we really appreciated. Communication was excellent before, during, and after the move, making the entire process much less stressful. I highly recommend Alpha Moving to both family and clients—they’re reliable, professional, and offer very reasonable pricing..
