In this second part of our ‘Alpha Moving and Storage Rules and Regulations for Local Moving’, we will take a look at some of the practical aspects of local moving.
Providing Accurate Information
Providing your local mover all the relevant information regarding your move will help you save both time and money. Be sure to report any potential obstacles and hindrances such as: flights of stairs, difficult areas to reach in which large furniture are placed, excessive distance from the door of your house to the nearest place in which the truck can park and so forth.
You should also report oversized items that require special handling or equipment. If your building or complex requires a certificate of insurance, you need to alert the movers in advance. If you’re not sure, check with your building management in advance. Also, check about elevator restrictions. Some building managements allow only particular hours for elevator use, so be sure to check that in advance.
Packing and Storage
If you require additional packing services, the moving company will charge you according to the actual usage of packing materials and hours of labor. Items suck as mirrors, glass parts and items, televisions, mattresses, china etc. need to be carefully packed before they can be loaded to the truck. If you decide to do the packing yourself, be sure to inquire with your mover about the proper way in which the packing should be done.
If you need storage, two moves will actually need to take place and both will be charged by the hour. The first move will involve moving your goods to storage, the second move will involve bringing them from storage to your new home and offloading them from the truck. Shipments that go into storage will require careful packing so that damages will not be incurred.
