In this third and final part of our ‘Most Useful Tips for Packing’ guide, we will examine some more practical advice gathered by our Alpha Moving and Storage staff. For more tips, check out part 1 of this guide and for explanations about various box types, check out part 2.
Packing your House One Room at a Time
If you’d like to make the packing process more organized, try to pack one room at a time. Packing your entire house randomly might create a state of chaos with boxes lying around in every corner. Concentrating your efforts in a single room at a time will also help you create organized inventory lists.
Taking Your Personal Items with you
Our strong recommendation is not to pack personal items you might need in boxes the movers will transport on the moving truck, especially if a long distance move is involved.
Pack passports, medications, essential paperwork and so forth in a separate box and be sure to take it with you. You may also want to pack a separate box of ‘essentials’ things that you will need right away in your new home. Such a box can contain toilet paper, utensils, writing materials and so forth.
Packing the Right Size of Box
Packing items into the right size and type of box is extremely important in order to avoid damages. Don’t pack heavy items in boxes that are too large. Such boxes may become uncharitable and can also be torn at the bottom. Using the right type of box will also save you much needed room on the truck, as everything will fit easily.
