For the past few weeks, we’ve spoken with our customers and Alpha Moving and Storage foreman and dispatch managers and compiled a list of the most useful packing tips. We are now happy to present you with those tips in a series of blog posts.
Starting the Packing Process as Early as Possible
The most common advice, from both customers and moving professionals, was to start packing early. The most common self-packing mistakes will happen when people run out of time and are pressured to use inappropriate boxes, place unprotected glassware in boxes and so forth. Try to start a few weeks in advance, create a packing task list and go room by room. Remember, proper and careful packing reduces the chances of incurring damages.
The Art of Labeling
You’d be amazed how much time the simple action of writing down the contents and designated room on each box will save you. There’s nothing worse than finding yourself in your new house with dozens of unmarked boxes. Labeling will save you the unnecessary burden of carrying boxes from room to room.
Getting Rid of Items
You’d be amazed to discover how much less you’ll have to move after doing some sorting out around the house. Going room by room and creating a careful inventory list can help you with that. The process of writing down items will make you stop and think about their usefulness. Sorting out will help you to lower the cost of your move. It will also help you speed the process of unpacking and settling in your new home.
Don’t Pack Boxes that are too Heavy
Try to be as practical as possible and avoid packing huge boxes that will be impossible to carry. Stuffing too many items in one giant box can also lead to damages. Also, remember that you will still need to carry and unpack some of the boxes from room to room in your new house.
