In the first part of our Alpha Moving and Storage unpacking guide, we’ve discussed the importance of marking and labeling your boxes to make the unpacking process easier. In this part, we will take a look at how to unpack boxes in the various rooms of the house, such as your kitchen, bathroom and bedrooms.
Unpacking your Kitchen Boxes
The kitchen is naturally one of the first rooms to unpack. Start with taking out all the essentials you’ll need to prepare food, such as pots and pans and cutlery. As mentioned before, dividing the kitchen items into different classes of boxes, based on how urgently you’ll need them, can help you start with unpacking just a few boxes, then continue to gradually unpack. Make sure you take the time to carefully unpack boxes containing breakable kitchen items, you don’t want to break expensive dinnerware by impatiently unpacking.
Unpacking your Bathroom Boxes
Bathroom boxes normally contain shampoo bottles, toothpaste tubes, deodorants and other liquid or semi-liquid items. This is why you’ll probably want to finish with the unpacking of the bathroom boxes during the first day or two. You’ll need most bathroom items as soon as the first evening or morning in the new house and there aren’t normally that many boxes anyway. In general, we recommend starting the unpacking process in the kitchen and the bathroom. Unpacking for other rooms, such as the living room, for example, can probably wait a few more days.
In order to make the unpacking process possible, you may want to clean the new house a day or two before actually moving in. Cleaning the bathroom and the kitchen will allow you to begin the unpacking process for these rooms right away and place all the items in their proper drawers, shelves, cabinets and so forth.
In the next and final Alpha Moving unpacking guide, we will take a look at unpacking the living room and bedrooms and provide some general unpacking tips.
