Packing the kitchen is one of the most delicate and complex aspects of moving. Packing dishes, glassware and appliances the wrong way might result in breakage and damages. The last thing you want is to open boxes at the destination and find broken glasses and dishes inside.
This Alpha Moving and Storage post presents some simple methods you could use in order to do a better job and try to avoid damages.
Packing your Appliances
If you have some extra storage room in the house, always keep the original boxes of appliances you buy. When it comes to packing appliances, packing them in their original box is your best bet of avoiding damages. If you don’t have the original box, look for boxes that are about the size of the appliance you want to move. Before placing the appliance in the box, be sure to remove all the extra parts, glass bowls and so on. Some appliances require actual disassembling. In such cases, try to find the original instruction manual and place it in the same box. It will help you to reassemble your appliance safely.
Before placing the item in the box, wrap it with bubble wrap. Fill up all empty spaces with newspaper, or packing paper.
Packing Food
Before starting the packing process, be sure to check the expiration date of all dry foodstuffs. Use small boxes for the packing of foodstuffs and mark them in a way that will help the movers identify them and place them in your new kitchen. When it comes to the packing for foodstuffs, use your judgment and try to avoid packing liquids and things that might spill or break during the move.
