Welcome back to the Alpha Moving and Storage ‘Countdown Guide to Moving.’ A week before your move most everything should be set and ready to go. Make sure you’ve already taken care of inventory and packing decisions, have a professional mover lined-up and the travel preparations set in motion. Now let’s take a look at preparations you need to take care of about a week prior to your moving date.

Phones and Bank Accounts

  • Disconnect the local phone service at the pick up point and make arrangements to connect it at your destination point.
  • Be sure to notify your bank and transfer your account.

Paying the Moving Company

  • Most movers accept cash, a certified back check or a money order, unless credit card payment approval has been secured. Check with your local sales representative and make sure you are able to pay the driver according to the payment arrangements you’ve secured with your mover.

The Countdown Guide to Moving – One Week Prior to Your Moving Date

  • Take care of all personal items, such as jewelry, important documents and so on. Pack them and make sure you can easily find them. When it comes to personal documents and jewelry, it is highly recommended to transport them yourself.
  • Prepare a menu for your last days, so you could get rid of all frozen foods and other non-canned foodstuffs.
  • If you have gas-powered equipment, such as lawnmowers, remember to drain the fuel from them.
  • If you’ve decided to do some of the packing yourself, about a week before the move is a good time to finish packing everything you won’t need handy in the final days.
  • Check with your moving and relocation company if there are any other preparations you need to make prior to the move and be sure to update them of any changes regarding your inventory or anything else that might influence the move.

Alpha Moving helped us move from an apartment with many stairs in Hoboken to a suburban home in NJ. There team was very responsive, professional, punctual, … More and communicative. I was very happy with their service, and they helped make the experience less stressful. The Alpha team was great at communicating ahead of and during our move and they set our expectations on pricing. We were very happy with our decision to hire Alpha.

My experience using Alpha Moving and Storage was excellent. The crew was courteous and professional. They took their time to ensure that everything was … More covered and packaged before the move so there was no damage. They made sure everything was positioned correctly in our house, and even helped to move a few pieces of furniture that were not part of the original move. I would highly recommend

I recently hired Alpha Moving to help a family member move from a 3rd-floor walk-up in Brooklyn to New Jersey, and I couldn't be more impressed with … More their service. The team was punctual, professional, and showed exceptional care for both the Brooklyn apartment and the New Jersey home. They took extra precautions to protect the walls and floors, which we really appreciated. Communication was excellent before, during, and after the move, making the entire process much less stressful. I highly recommend Alpha Moving to both family and clients—they’re reliable, professional, and offer very reasonable pricing..
