Welcome back to the Alpha Moving and Storage ‘Countdown Guide to Moving.’ A week before your move most everything should be set and ready to go. Make sure you’ve already taken care of inventory and packing decisions, have a professional mover lined-up and the travel preparations set in motion. Now let’s take a look at preparations you need to take care of about a week prior to your moving date.
Phones and Bank Accounts
- Disconnect the local phone service at the pick up point and make arrangements to connect it at your destination point.
- Be sure to notify your bank and transfer your account.
Paying the Moving Company
- Most movers accept cash, a certified back check or a money order, unless credit card payment approval has been secured. Check with your local sales representative and make sure you are able to pay the driver according to the payment arrangements you’ve secured with your mover.
- Take care of all personal items, such as jewelry, important documents and so on. Pack them and make sure you can easily find them. When it comes to personal documents and jewelry, it is highly recommended to transport them yourself.
- Prepare a menu for your last days, so you could get rid of all frozen foods and other non-canned foodstuffs.
- If you have gas-powered equipment, such as lawnmowers, remember to drain the fuel from them.
- If you’ve decided to do some of the packing yourself, about a week before the move is a good time to finish packing everything you won’t need handy in the final days.
- Check with your moving and relocation company if there are any other preparations you need to make prior to the move and be sure to update them of any changes regarding your inventory or anything else that might influence the move.
