Alpha Moving & Storage Moving Preparation Tips
Welcome to the second part of the Alpha Moving and Storage ‘Countdown Guide to Moving.’ Three weeks prior to your moving date you should already have an organized inventory list for your upcoming local or long distance move.
If you followed the advice on the previous ‘Three Weeks’ part of this moving guide, you’ve also already notified the post office and all the relevant utilities and service providers about your coming change of address. Now let’s continue to the Alpha Moving and Storage recommendations for things to do about three weeks prior to your moving date.
Packing and Floor Plans
- A floor plan of your new home can be very useful for deciding about the placement of furniture in advance. If you discover that some items won’t fit into the new space, you can sell or donate them. Don’t forget to update your inventory list with any changes!
- Now’s the time to make decisions about packing. First of all, decide whether you’d like to pack yourself or have your movers do the packing for you. After that, update your moving service provider of your decisions.
- If there are any changes about your moving destination, moving dates, inventories or packing decisions, be sure to notify your moving company about them.
- If you have pets and are moving long distance, start thinking about making proper arrangements or contact a pet shipper.
Insurance
- Make sure you transfer all insurance policies covering theft, property, and fire to the new house.
- Before contacting your mover about insurance, check your homeowner’s police. Sometimes moving is covered by the insurer and no further policies will be necessary.
- Request details from your moving and relocation company about basic liability (sixty cents per pound per item) versus purchasing a full coverage moving insurance policy.
